Will ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ Become A Hallyu Drama? Drama Flooded With Requests For Pre-Sales
SungKyunKwan Scandal’, starring Micky Yoochun and Song Joong Gi, is expected to become another Hallyu drama.
A representative of ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ stated, “We haven’t even started filming yet but we are getting requests for pre-sales overseas.” Many see this as the ‘Micky Yoochun effect’ as TVXQ is a solid star not only in Japan, but all across Asia.
This representative also stated, “The flood of interest makes us happy but also puts a lot of pressure on us,” and “We will work hard to make this a great production.”
‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ is a youthful traditional drama that is loosely based off the bestseller ‘The Lives of SungKyunKwan Confusian Scholars”. Micky Yoochun and Song Joong Gi have currently been cast as members of the Joseon Dynasty Quartet, and casting is currently being wrapped up for the other roles.
On the other hand, ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ will begin airing on KBS during the second half of the year and will begin filming in late May.
The drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, which is scheduled to air in Korea later this year, has already been pre-sold to Japan.
Raemong Raein, the production company of ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, stated, “On the 18th, we decided to pre-sell the drama to Avex Entertainment, Japan’s best entertainment agency and a reliable distribution enterprise, for 120,000 USD per episode with a total of 3.3 billion Won (approximately 2.8 million USD).”
As it is rare for a drama to be pre-sold at such premium standards even before it begins to air domestically, this proves Micky Yoochun’s popularity in Japan as well the fact that Japan has recognized the drama’s exceptional planning and publicity.
When news broke out that Micky Yoochun would play a leading role in ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, the great interest in the drama was apparent when the Japanese media fought to get coverage on the news.
A representative of Avex stated, “The drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ is the debut drama for TVXQ’s Micky Yoochun so we are getting many inquiries from all over Asia for permission to air the drama and broadcasting companies are fighting to win the rights to air the drama in their respective countries.”

Micky - "Sungkyunkwan scandal", confirmó en septiembre de programación KBS
믹키유천-송중기 '성균관 스캔들', 9월 KBS 편성
조선시대 캠퍼스 사극이라는 이색 주제로 성균관 유생들의 좌충우돌 사랑과 인생 이야기를 다루는 '성균관 스캔들'이 올 가을 시청자들과 만난다.
13일 '성균관 스캔들' 제작사인 래몽레인 측은 "최근 KBS와 편성을 확정하고 올 가을 9월쯤 방영할 예정"이라고 밝혔다.
이에 KBS측은 "현재 월화 드라마로 편성을 잡았지만, 이후 변동될 가능성이 크다"며 "현재 방영중인 '국가가 부른다' 이후 라인업 구성이 늦춰지고 있어서 '성균관 스캔들'의 정확한 방영 날짜는 알수 없다"고 전했다.
그룹 '동방신기' 출신의 믹키유천의 첫 드라마 도전으로 화제가 된 '성균관 스캔들'은 그동안 3사 지상파 방송사 모두의 관심을 받았으나 편성을 확정짓지 못하고 난항에 부딪혔었다.
더욱이 사전제작 드라마로 믹키유천, 송중기, 정다영 등 주연배우들은 물론이고 조민기 등 화려한 조연배우들을 캐스팅에 대본 리딩, 본격적인 촬영까지 임박해 애타했던 상황이다.
베스트셀러 '성균관 유생들의 나날'을 원작으로 한 조선시대 청춘 사극 '성균관 스캔들'은 국내 드라마에서는 처음 다루는 성균관을 배경으로 그간 소개된 적 없는 유생들의 이야기를 다룰 예정이다.
'성균관 스캔들'의 이현욱 PD는 "퓨전 사극의 정점을 선사할 것이다. 파격적인 대사와 설정으로 조선판 트렌디 드라마를 표방한다"며 "원작의 인물 구도만 남기고 원작과는 상당부분 다를것"이라고 밝혔다.
이 PD는 또 "기존의 복수와 대결, 그리고 정치성이 짙었던 기본 사극과 달리 조선시대 대학신입생들의 톡톡 튀는 밝은 사극이 될 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
한편 '성균관 스캔들'은 5월말 첫 촬영에 돌입해 사전제작에 들어간다.

The location is in a mess of fun. As the filming content is rather somber when we film individually, every time everyone gathers together it becomes especially lively. I've also been telling cold jokes to make myself more likable... Just now there was a bug on the canopy, so I really wanted to say "Don't look down on the bugs~".
However, in the end, I restrained myself because I'm not sure if everyone will laugh if I say it. The one with the most humour cells is Eita. He just has to say something and it's hilarious. That's his good point!

A few days ago I had a meal with Eita and Jejung at the film site canteen for the first time. There, I was the oldest and I'm also more familiar with the staff, so I'll usually make the move to interact with them.
The filming process is also very enjoyable. A few days ago, when we were filming a scene where everyone crosses the pedestrian crossing, Jejung was left in the center, going out of shot.
How did it turn out like that... He is absolutely like a genie, a person who is incomprehensible.

When Jejung is alone, he sometimes gives off a very strong gaze. This kind of strong gaze is completely different from the gentle 'Doctor' that he portrays. I guess this is also one of the reasons why he is so popular! (laugh)

100511 Jung Da-Young To Be Heroine For 'Sungkyunkwan Scandal'
Jung Da-Young, who is acting in KBS' drama [A Good Day For The Wind To Blow], has been casted as the heroine for the drama [Sungkyunkwan Scandal], which is currently in pre-production and stars other leads like TVXQ's Yoochun, as well as actor Song Joong Gi. On the 8th, Jung Da-Young participated in the script reading, making it the first time she's exchanging and matching lines with Yoochun.
